First Impressions

I contacted the incredibly helpful folks at Pharmacor Technologies, and was happy to not only get some more information on the Inhalater INH004, but also get my hands on a review sample. Upon receiving the news that my unit was shipped, I was antsy to get the unit and try it out; I had already read raving reviews from the FC Forum folks. It took about a week for it to arrive due to having to go through Canadian customs. The Inhalater was shipped in two soft shipping bags, and after removing the box I was a little disappointed to see the corner of the box be crushed in. I would have imagined the device to ship in more protective packing materials, yet the device was unscathed.

I started by twice grinding a large pinch of Dan’s Blend by Boswell Pipes, and lightly packing it into the vaporizer chamber. I then removed the cap of the Inhalater INH004 which fits very snugly onto the device. I then loaded the chamber into the top of the Inhalater, and spun the temperature control to “1.” I imagined an incredibly weak, low temperature vapor to exude my mouth after a few priming puffs. I was blown away by a great vapor, and a wonderful taste. I continued to amp the temperature up to “5,” and took a few more drags. It was hot, but not at all unpleasant, and provided large clouds of beautiful, lightly fragrant vapor. I then took a dive and whipped the temperature gauge up to “10” to see how hot it was. I didn’t like the heat of “10,” it was incredibly hot for tobacco, but after emptying the chamber I was joyfully greeted by deep brown flakes, and nothing was burnt. Things were smooth sailing, as I finished a few puffs of a second chamber when my battery died. I whipped out the included wall adapted, and micro usb cable, and let the device sit for about 6 hours to let it have a nice initial charge.

Likes & Dislikes

Aesthetics

The device looks appealing, yet leaves room for improvement. The device is made from an abs type plastic, and is wrapped in a faux aluminum cover. The device looks pleasant & a little more stealth with it’s coverings removed. The led interface plays well with the overall look of the device. The two bubble type led’s give the device an industrial look, and are very easy to read. There are only three available modes to the top led; on, off, and blinking (from slow to rapid). Off means the device is off (or dead if you turned on the device), blinking starts slow, and gets faster the closer the device gets to operational temperature, and on means the INH004 is ready to vape. The bottom led only turns on to signal the device is charging. I would say the device is a little conspicuous with the flashy logo, and the metal look, but this can be resolved with a little DIY stealth via sticker removal.

Size

The device is a good size to fit in a jeans pocket, purse, or other larger space. This device is a good size, especially for all the features it possesses, yet it’s not an uber stealth device. The Inhalater INH004 seems like it fits into it’s shell perfectly. There is no overheating, and the size allows the INH004 to fit a wonderfully sized battery. The size of the bowl is also a decent size. It can accommodate up to a half gram of substrate if tightly packed, and works equally well with lightly packed capsules, of half packed capsules. No matter how little I filled the chamber, I was unable to produce a scorched substrate, which is superb!

Capsules

The capsules are interesting, and make the device unique, yet also leaves me wishing for a little more. To start out, the Polyimide capsules & inner heating chamber are a wonderful material to have as a bowl piece. Polyimide is safe at continual use of 450 °F (232 °C) (lower than the device can even heat to), has a high tensile strength, and permeates heat very well. The capsules facilitate a heating chamber that fully surrounds the substrate you are heating. This leads to an incredibly even vape, and leaves almost all of the abv (after been vaped) substrate evenly vaporized & colored.

There are little metal grates (easily removed and cleanable) between the bottom of the chamber & the capsule. Along with another metal filter between the top of the capsule and the mouthpiece (prevents any small particles from being inhaled). I’m totally digging the capsules, and love that the device came with two to start. I am careful with the capsules, but a potential issue in the future is having to buy a few more capsules when these become unusable due to wear and tear.

The integrated mouthpiece in the capsules is nice, and makes the overall piece very sturdy. The capsules are simple to clean, and are safe to wash with rubbing alcohol.

On the flip side it seems like it would be trivial to have a tincture tank capsule. I’m very sad that this isn’t available for users that would like to use store bought tinctures or make their own. One other slight problem with the capsules are their durability. Where they are holding up great at the moment, they will eventually need to be replaced…

Battery Life / Charger

The battery life on the Inhalater INH004 is superb. The bulk of the device is because of the decent sized battery contained within. I could vaporize 6 capsules without having to worry about having to charge the INH004. This makes it an ideal candidate for repeated use without having to worry about a dead battery. The battery inside is a Li-Ion, and a general rule of thumb is to never fully discharge a Li-Ion battery. By charging in between sessions, you’ll have quicker recharges, and a longer life overall. The best feature of the Inhalater INH004 is the ability to use any stardard micro usb adapter for charging. This makes finding a charger incredibly simple if you happen to misplace the one that came with your device (since almost every cell phone today use them for charging).

Temperature Selector

The whirly knob on the bottom of the device is a hassle free way to get to the temperature you want. In fact a little bit too easy. The resistance on the knob is almost non-existent, and leaves room for accidental temp changes. To be honest this doesn’t bother me one bit. If I bump it while using the INH004, I just return it to the position it was at originally, and continue. The large variance in temperature makes this device ideal for many situations. You can start out with a low temperature, and slowly draw out every ounce of vapor from your substrate. Or you can start on 8 or higher & use the Inhalater INH004 with a glass piece/ water bong.

Build Quality

The Inhalater INH004 feels solid in your hand, and feels like it’s built like a tank. Don’t get me wrong, the device is not bulky, or heavy, but it feels sturdy, and not cheap (like so many of the other portables). Other than the silly faux aluminium sticker, the device is built very well. The addition of a cap wonderfully streamlines the device while not in use.

Vapor Clouds

The Inhalater INH004 produces fantastic vapor clouds. Even at the lowest temperature, the device produces a nice cloud of vapor. When cranked up to 10, the clouds produced are thick, white, and beautiful. Along with producing great vapor, there was no burning of substrate whatsoever. The darkening was consistently light to dark brown depending on how aggressive you were on the temperature knob.

Conclusion:

While the Inhalater INH004 isn’t the perfect portable vape, it comes pretty close. The Inhalater INH004 has an amazing selection of temperatures, along with an incredibly simple interface makes it the perfect fit for just about anyone. Really the only thing I would have added is the ability to vaporize tinctures. Other than that the device vaporizes perfectly, and produces wonderful vapor clouds. All of this paired with excellent battery life, and nearly universal charging makes this vaporizer a sure pick when choosing a portable vaporizer.
